Just last month Prince George celebrated his ninth birthday, which saw keen photographer Kate Middleton take an adorable portrait photo of her eldest child to mark the occasion.

Now, the young royal is in the spotlight again, after a schoolgirl sweetly invited him to her sixth birthday.

Having received the invite, Middleton and Prince William reportedly responded by sending a letter to the girl.

As per Hello!, the mother of the schoolgirl, whose tweets are protected, shared the heartfelt response from Kensington Palace on Twitter, under the username @xxAimeeRoxyxx.

It read: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked me to thank you for your letter, in which you invite Prince George to your 6th Birthday party. I am sorry that it took so long to reply [sic].'

Revealing that Middleton and Prince William politely declined the invite, the message continued: 'Their Royal Highnesses were extremely grateful for your kind invitation. Having given careful consideration to the possibilities, however, I very much regret that Their Royal Highnesses reluctantly feel they have to decline. Nevertheless, I hope that you enjoyed your birthday.

'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were immensely touched that you should take the trouble to write as you did to their son, Prince George.

'It really was most thoughtful of you and Their Royal Highnesses have asked me to send you their warmest thanks and best wishes [sic].'

The social media post has since gone viral.

Prince George, who attended the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, was also the topic of conversation last month due to his shy moment meeting tennis champion Novak Djokovic.

While at Wimbledon for the first time, ahead of his ninth birthday, he watched his parents shake hands with seven-time champion Djokovic as he appeared to stand confident behind them.

However in footage captured by the BBC, Prince George, who's third in line to the throne, seemed overwhelmed by the exchange.

He was seen running off and sitting on a sofa, then using his hands to shield his face as if starstruck.

While watching Djokovic win victory over Australian contender Nick Kyrgios, he sat in the royal box for the event, where few children have had the same luxury.

It's normally occupied by those in the tennis community, which only royal family members can join.

Earlier in July, a source deemed Middleton a 'down-to-earth mum'.

The insider shared that the 40-year-old regularly takes her children to a local trampolining park in south-west London, where she blends in with other parents.

They said: 'Kate takes her kids to the trampoline park quite regularly and really blends in as any other mum.

'She went a couple of Saturdays ago with George and Louis and took her shoes off like everyone else, and was walking around the edge of the trampolines following her sons. It was a very down-to-earth mum moment, very sweet.'

Prince George, along with his siblings, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, could be about to have a change of lifestyle as the Daily Mail previously reported that Middleton and Prince William 'will move to Windsor this summer to be closer to the Queen'.

At the time, the royal couple were reportedly looking at schools in the area, and in Buckinghamshire and Surrey, with a plan to have one final 'normal' summer for their children.
