Prince William is not one to shy away from comments about his children or fatherhood in general. That being said, they're usually of a humorous or generalised nature, giving us a little glimpse into the Cambridges' life without really lifting the lid.

However, in an upcoming ITV documentary, Prince William: A Planet For Us All — which will be aired next month — the Duke made some rare emotional comments about how his children have changed his world view.

He shared that he has "always loved nature", but said that fatherhood has given him a "new sense of purpose".

"Now I have got George, Charlotte and now Louis in my life – your outlook does change. You want to hand over to the next generation, the wildlife in a much better condition," the Prince explained.

The documentary follows William, who was joined by a film crew two years ago, as he meets people in the UK and abroad who are playing their part in protecting and restoring the environment.

"I always believe it is possible to give young people hope and belief that things can get fixed. I have the belief that if we all work together, we can make a difference," William remarked.

The documentary also charts William's journey from being passionate about conservation to wanting to play a greater global leadership role on the environment. Something both he and his brother Prince Harry say has been inspired by their father Prince Charles' commitment to conservation and environmental issues.

During the programme, soon to be shown on ITV, Kate Middleton can be seen accompanying William on a trip to meet David Attenborough, where she confessed that the children were 'upset' they couldn't come.

"The children were very upset that we were coming to see you and they weren’t coming. They’re massive fans of yours," she told him.

Other clips in the preview include the future king playing with a worm and work with conversation.
