Yahoo News Prince William opens up about the worst present he’s bought Kate Middleton
Prince William has revealed the worst present he’s ever bought Kate Middleton, noting that his wife ‘never’ lets him forget his epic gifting fail.
During a recent interview on Peter Crouch’s podcast That Peter Crouch Podcast, the former footballer admitted to buying his wife, Abbey Clancy, a raincoat three years on the trot, which prompted the Duke of Cambridge to discuss his own present buying faux pas.
"I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she's never let me forget that," the father-of-three admitted.
The duke continued, explaining: "That was early on in the courtship that was.
"I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it. I was like, 'but these are really amazing, look how far you can see!' She was looking at me going, 'they're binoculars, what's going on?'."
Unsurprisingly, William’s gift "didn’t go well".
"Honestly I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars," he joked.
The couple – who married in 2011 after meeting at university 10 years prior – have seen their relationship go from strength-to-strength over the years, and are now parents to three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Elsewhere in the discussion, which involved the podcast presenters and interviewee enjoying a pint and a curry, Prince William said that Prince George was more than capable of "doing the job" (presumably meaning fulfil his royal duties) and playing upfront for Aston Villa – the duke’s favourite football team.
"I reckon he could be their all time [top] goalscorer," he said, noting that since becoming a parent football has played a bigger role in his life.
"I need to go and be amongst other guys and let out some steam, shout a bit," he said, joking that he refrains from ever abusing the referee. "I'm the president of the FA and I can't do that!
"[Football] has become a lot more relevant to me and I need it. Talking about football helps a lot."

In addition to discussing his love of a kickabout, the proud father also shed light on the challenges of lockdown, admitting that he's struggled with year two maths.
"I found it pretty testing, trying to keep the children engaged and interested in some sort of work," he revealed. "It's been an interesting few months.
"I've learned my patience is a lot shorter than I thought it was! That's probably the biggest eye-opener for me, and my wife has super patience."
The interview was recorded in two parts – at Kensington Palace in March, and via video call earlier this month – to raise awareness to William, Kate and Prince Harry’s Heads Together Heads Up campaign.
Heads Together partnered with The Football Association last year to start Heads Up, a campaign that uses football as a platform to discuss issues surrounding mental health.
"We all have mental health, and we all have to stay mentally fit…" William said.
"It's a strength to talk about your mental health, it's not a weakness. You know if you're not feeling well, something's bothering you, talk about it – it's not a problem."
