The Prince's Trust Awards: What are they and who's hosting them?

As glitzy awards ceremonies go, The Prince's Trust Awards is one of the most feel-good there is - and this year, it's broadcasting on TV for the first time.

It's strange to think the ceremony hasn't been available to watch on TV before given its uplifting tales and celebrity backing (not to mention royal connection) but The Queen's Platinum Jubilee year seems as good a time as any to put that right.

Here's all you need to know about the awards, when they're on TV and who is hosting them.

When are The Prince's Trust Awards on TV?

For the first time ever and to mark its 18th year of awards, you can watch the ceremony on TV as it broadcasts on ITV on Thursday, 26 May from 8.30pm.

The awards actually took place on Tuesday, 24 May at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane, but will air two days later.

Who is hosting The Prince's Trust Awards?

This is the 10th year running that TV favourites Ant and Dec have hosted the awards - making it even more incredible that they haven't been broadcast before.

Of course, the founder and president of The Prince's Trust, Prince Charles, will be in attendance too, as will some big names from the worlds of film, TV, music and sport.

Ant said: “It’s an absolute privilege to be involved in The Prince’s Trust Awards again this year and to be hosting it for the 10th time. It is always so inspirational to hear from these young people who through pure determination and against all odds have come out fighting and achieved so much.”

Dec added: “We’re honoured to play a part in the amazing work of The Prince’s Trust. The young people celebrated at The Prince’s Trust Awards have shown real strength, commitment and dedication and are proof that the support offered by The Trust really is life changing.”

What are The Prince's Trust Awards?

While the hosts and award presenters might be famous stars, the winners being celebrated are all young people who have achieved amazing things despite disadvantage and adversity.

It honours the success of people who have been helped by The Prince's Trust - 11 to 30-year-olds who have been supported in getting their lives back on track to give them the skills they need to live, learn and earn.

Those helped by the charity, which was set up in 1976, might be unemployed, struggling at school or at risk of exclusion and are given a helping hand by the Trust.

Amazing nominees up for awards this year include a woman who has achieved her dream of becoming an ambulance worker despite years of physical and mental abuse, and a boy who hasn't let a lifetime of surgery for a serious medical condition hold him back educationally.

The Prince's Trust Awards air on Thursday at 8.30pm on ITV.
