Prince William and Prince Harry have opened up about the moment their father Prince Charles told them that their mother Princess Diana had died.

In an emotional interview for a new BBC documentary, William and Harry discuss the aftermath of Diana's death.

"One of the hardest things for a parent to have to do is to tell your children that your other parent has died," Harry says.

"But he was there for us, he was the one out of two left and he tried to do his best and to make sure we were protected and looked after.

"But, you know, he was going through the same grieving process as well."

Harry also reveals that his reaction to being told the news was one of "disbelief", while William describes feeling "disorientated, dizzy... and very confused".

He continues: "I remember just feeling completely numb. And you keep asking yourself, 'Why me?' all the time. 'What have I done?'"

The documentary, Diana, 7 Days, will pay tribute to the late Princess of Wales, as it marks the 20th anniversary of her tragic death.

As well as Wills and Harry, other interviewees include Tony Blair, Alastair Campbell and Charles Spencer (below).

Earlier this month, Diana: In Her Own Words aired on Channel 4, showing some never-before-seen footage of Diana talking candidly to her speech coach Peter Settelen at Kensington Palace in the early 1990s.

She was seen discussing her marriage to Charles, the subsequent breakdown of their partnership, William and Harry, and her struggles with eating disorders.

The controversial footage was said to be the only "unmediated" video with Diana, and showed the Princess of Wales rehearsing her speaking voice as she spoke about the very personal matters.
