There's acting royalty in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there's no denying it – but what about actual royalty?

Rumours began swirling around the galaxy that Princes William and Harry had made their Star Wars debut as stormtroopers in The Last Jedi while on a set visit, until John Boyega shut it down.

While appearing on This Morning earlier this week, John – who plays Finn in the series – told Holly and Phil that he was "sick" of talking about the alleged cameos.

"Yeah, they were [in it], man. I'm sick of it – yes they were," he confirmed, before adding: "They're cut out [of] the film."

Cue shock, confusion and disappointment from fans.

Now, in another twist of the tale, it turns out that William and Harry might have got to keep their scenes in after all, as John's rep confirmed it was all a joke.

"I can confirm he was joking," a spokesperson told Mail Online.

Of course, any die-hard Star Wars fan will know that you have to be 5'11" to fit into a stormtrooper suit, while any die-hard royalist will know that the Princes are taller than that.

So, if you want to know for certain whether the future King of England appeared in a Star Wars film, just look out for a couple of tall troopers.

In news that's a lot less confusing, John Boyega told Digital Spy at the film's European premiere that he's not worried about Star Wars overload in light of Rian Johnson's upcoming trilogy.

"To a certain extent, there possibly could be [a danger of it burning out], but I feel you've got Rian Johnson at the helm of this story," he told us.

"I'm sure there's quality and a distinct difference between those films and others. Variety is good."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available to catch in cinemas right now! What are you waiting for?
