Princess Anne enjoys special treat with the Queen in Windsor ahead of 70th birthday

The Princess Royal is set to mark her 70th birthday on 15 August and it seems there was one person she wanted to catch up with before her milestone celebration – her mother, the Queen. Princess Anne enjoyed a socially distanced lunch with the 94-year-old monarch at Frogmore House in Windsor on Monday, according to Mail Online.

While Buckingham Palace declined to comment, according to the Court Circular, the Princess Royal was at Windsor Castle on Monday to visit members of The King's Royal Hussars in her role as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been isolating with minimal staff, dubbed HMS Bubble, at Windsor Castle since March. They are expected to travel to their Scottish estate Balmoral for their annual traditional break this month.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne has been residing at her Gloucestershire estate, Gatcombe Park, with her husband Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. The Princess Royal's children Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall live nearby with her grandchildren.

The Princess featured in ITV's documentary Anne: The Princess Royal at 70, which aired last week. During the programme, the royal made a quip about Netflix series The Crown, saying: "Actually I read an article the other day about The Crown, the actress was talking about how long it took them to do their hair like I did."

Anne laughed and added: "And I'm thinking, 'How could you possibly take that long?' I mean it takes me ten or 15 minutes.”

Erin Doherty, who plays the Princess in series three of the Netflix drama, previously told Town & Country: "Makeup literally took ten minutes, but hair, sometimes it would take two hours. It's its own beast. Literally, I would sit in the chair, people would come in and go and come in and go, and I sat still in the same place."
