Princess Charlotte Christening Date Set

Princess Charlotte will be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Sandringham on Sunday 5 July, it has been announced.

The baby, who was born on 2 May, will be christened by Justin Welby in a private ceremony at St Mary Magdalene Church in the Norfolk town.

Kensington Palace said in a short statement: "Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce the christening of Princess Charlotte will take place on Sunday, 5th July at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham.

"Princess Charlotte will be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently living at Anmer Hall which is where they are expected to spend much of their time while their children are young.

The house is only around three miles from the church which is where the royal family usually attend a Christmas service.

The date in early July may have been chosen as it fits with the Queen's plans as she will be going to Balmoral for the summer.

The princess' older brother George was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury at St James's Palace in October 2013.

That service was also an intimate gathering, with around 60 friends and family members attending.

George wore a Honiton lace christening gown, which was a replica of the one used by more than 60 members of the Royal Family since 1841.
