From bills to birthday cards, we all get mail. Although the latter is clearly better received than the former. Unless you're celebrating your 100th birthday though, you'd never expect to receive a letter from a royal. But, that's exactly what happened for one royal fan, who was recently sent a letter by none other than Princess Charlotte herself.

It all started when the six-year-old fan sent Charlotte a hand-drawn picture after Queen Elizabeth II's death, in the hope that it would cheer her up. Alongside the drawing of the Queen and her corgis, Meredith wrote: "Dear Princess Charlotte, I drew you a picture of your grandma walking her dogs to remember her. I am six and one day would like to feed the corgis. Love Meredith."

In response, Meredith received an official letter from Kensington Palace, with a thank you note from Prince William and Kate Middleton, sent on behalf of their daughter.

"Meredith received some VIP post this morning from Kensington Palace!" a post on Twitter from the little girl's school read. "Last year Meredith wrote a special letter and drew a beautiful picture for Princess Charlotte to cheer her up. Well done Meredith for showing our Greatwood value of kindness."

Princess Charlotte had a close relationship with her great-grandmother, which was noticed by fans on many occasions, including during last year's Platinum Jubilee. As the Royal Family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony, Charlotte proudly sang the National Anthem and gave Her Majesty a look of caring concern.

"Charlotte stood to attention and sang the anthem as confidently as Louis beside her but she again showed her empathetic, caring side," body language expert Judi James told The Mirror of the moment in question. "She seems to have inherited the trait from Kate."
