Princess Eugenie has always been the cool royal.
Much like her great aunt, the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret, Eugenie is far enough away from the throne to be able to do her own thing.
The 27-year-old, along with her older sister Beatrice, have managed to stay out of the public eye for much of their 20s. But Eugenie was thrust back into the spotlight earlier this year when she announced her engagement to Jack Brooksbank.
Now, Eugenie’s life is about to become even more public as she has become the first young British Royal to have her own personal, public Instagram account.
Last Thursday, the royal posted a video of herself under the account @princesseugenie and captioned it: “I can think of no better day than today, International Women’s Day, to launch my personal Instagram. I hope to use this platform to share the causes, passions and people close to my heart. #scoliosis #iwd2018 #weday #firstpost.”
Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms among millennials so it’s no surprise Eugenie wanted to join the bandwagon.
So far the Princess and associate director at art gallery Hauser & Wirth has shared four posts, including one of her and Brooksbank’s official engagement photos captioned, “Think Jack said something funny!”
The bride-to-be also posted two throwback photos, one for Mother’s Day, giving thanks to her mum Sarah Ferguson and another of her yawning which she captioned, “Good morning Monday!”
While her father, Prince Andrew, also has his own public Instagram account, Eugenie is the first of the young royals to share parts of their personal life publicly on social media.
Other members of the Royal family are, of course, not exactly strangers to social media. Eugenie's cousins, Prince William, Prince Harry and the Duchess of Cambridge, have their own professional Instagram account @kensingtonroyal. Similarly, The Queen sent her first tweet to The Royal Family Twitter account in 2014, writing: "It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R."
