Princess Margaret's Sapphire and Emerald Ring To Go Under The Hammer
A remarkable piece of British royal history is heading to auction.
On November 21, British auction house Fellows Auctioneers will present a sapphire and emerald ring from the personal collection of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, in their Fine Jewellery auction.
The exquisite ring boasts a flower design, with vibrant marquise-cut sapphire petals encircling a cabochon emerald at its centre, creating a stunning contrast of colours. A unique detail, Princess Margaret's royal sypher, is engraved on the band's inner side. Additionally, a handwritten name, 'Dolly,' graces the silk lining of its luxurious green leather case, adding a personal touch to this piece of history.
Ben Randall, Senior Specialist and Catalogue Manager at Fellows, commented, "We are honoured to be offering this ring from Princess Margaret's personal jewellery collection in our November Fine Jewellery Auction. The striking but elegant floral composition made from sapphires and emeralds epitomises the princess's vibrant lifestyle and makes for a unique addition to anybody's personal collection."
Listed as Lot 242, the ring is expected to fetch between £3,200 and £4,200. Its royal provenance and personalised features enhance its allure, making it a rare and elegant item. Princess Margaret, celebrated for her glamour and lively spirit, was the younger sister of the late Queen Elizabeth II and led a life that captured public imagination.
Known for her vivacious lifestyle and numerous romances, Margaret earned the nickname "party princess" due to her close connections with celebrities, actors, and musicians of her era. Her charm and defiant personality helped her become one of the most beloved royals in recent history.
