Prison Break star Wentworth Miller is finally coming back to TV… just in a very unexpected way.

The actor has been taking a little break since he exited his recurring role as Captain Cold in the Arrowverse, but he'll soon be back on the small screen playing a very different character.

TVLine reports that Miller has signed up for the sixth and final season of CBS political drama Madam Secretary as the ruthless Senator Mark Hanson.

Madam Secretary is set to skip over Elizabeth McCord's (Téa Leoni) election campaign to dive right into her first year in office, where she'll have to battle Sen Hanson to pass her agenda through Congress.

Also joining the series this year will be former Private Practice star Michael Patrick Thornton as the First Husband's chief of staff Captain Evan Moore.

The final season of Madam Secretary needs a cast infusion since it was recently announced that long-time cast member Sara Ramirez will not return on a full-time basis as Elizabeth's chief advisor Kat Sandoval.

Miller's own decision to join Madam Secretary might sadden some Prison Break fans, since many were hoping any TV return would be for the long-awaited sixth season of his Fox action-adventure show.

Unfortunately, the Twitter account for the Prison Break writing room warned fans last month that the "elusive season six is not in the cards", at least for the moment.

Madam Secretary will air its final season on CBS beginning on October 6 in the US. In the UK, the series airs on Sky Witness.
