It has already seen plenty of drama as the home of The X Factor but now Wembley’s Fountain Studios was being transformed into a 2,000 seat theatre by the team who helped make Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda a star.

The renamed Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will be built and run by Tristan Baker and Oliver Royds who created the pop-up King’s Cross Theatre which was home to The Railway Children, the David Bowie musical Lazarus and the Donmar Warehouse all-female Shakespeare trilogy.

It also hosted In The Heights - the first big hit in this country for Miranda before his hip-hop musical about America’s founding fathers became a huge international smash.

Royds said the new theatre was the “natural progression” from the Kings Cross site which has since been taken on by Google for their new HQ.

He said: “In The Heights was his first big musical in the States and obviously the man is unstoppable now.

“It was exciting to bring that and that was a real example of bringing a show that brought new audiences to the theatre.

“We had people who had never been to the theatre seeing that show and a younger generation and we’re hopeful Wembley will do that as well.”

Royds, whose firm has signed a seven-year deal with developers Quintain for the site, said: “They got in touch with us and said they had seen what we had done at King’s Cross where we helped the regeneration and took a million people there in two-and-a-half years and they were excited about what we could do.

“There is all sorts happening, huge amounts of flats and houses being built to Boxpark being there and it’s world famous for sporting events and with gigs and rock shows so for us to have a theatre there is really exciting.

“We’re already talking to producers about everything from immersive shows to dance shows to ballet and musicals so it will be a real mix.”

The theatre, which will also be home to a restaurant and a bar, opens in the autumn.
