Protesters Boo Police During Clash at Sarah Everard Vigil in Clapham

London Metropolitan Police officers were accused of using heavy-handed tactics while attempting to disperse a crowd at a vigil for Sarah Everard in Clapham Common, on March 13.

Video posted to Twitter by Ahmed Kaballo shows officers pushing and shoving protesters in front of Clapham Common’s bandstand, where protesters had gathered to remember Sarah Everard, who disappeared while walking home on March 3. A serving Met officer has been charged with her kidnap and murder.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel called for a “full report” on police actions at the vigil, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan called for a “full, independent investigation”.

Dame Cressida Dick, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service in London, said she welcomed the Home Office investigation but defended how Met officers responded to the crowd at the vigil. Credit: Ahmed Kaballo via Storyful
