Protesters Gather in Bangkok as Prime Minister Refuses to Resign

Protesters took to the streets in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 26, after the nation’s Prime Minister defied their ‘deadline’ to resign.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and a fresh constitution. Some demonstrators have called for reforms of the country’s system of monarchy — a risky position in Thailand, where criticism of the monarchy is criminalized.

In this footage, protesters are seen near the German Embassy. The Bangkok Post reported protesters were calling on the German government to review the Thai king’s use of power while he is staying in Bavaria.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Monday that the government continued to monitor the activities of the king, after it earlier warned him not to conduct business from German soil. Credit: @Rabbit_junjun via Storyful
