Supporters of Ecuadorian opposition politician Guillermo Lasso rallied in Quito on April 4 after Lasso alleged that electoral fraud had helped his opponent, Lenin Moreno of the Socialist Party, gain victory in the presidential election.
Exit polls had indicated a win for Lasso, but after more than 99 percent of votes had been counted, Moreno had achieved more than 51 percent. The electoral commission rejected Lasso’s claims and Moreno was confirmed as the winner on April 4. However, on April 5, Lasso presented what he claimed were inconsistencies in the electoral process and called for a nationwide recount, according to AP. He said that he had appealed the results through official channels. Credit: Camila Lopez via Storyful
