Protesters Trying to Climb Fence Restrained by Police on Final Day of COP26 Climate Summit

Climate protesters attempted to climb the perimeter fences around the Scottish Event Campus, the venue for the COP26 climate summit, prompting police officers to restrain them on Friday, November 12.

Hundreds of people from the climate group Extinction Rebellion (ER) attended the protest to urge countries to commit to trying to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 F) instead of 2 degrees C.

Footage by Agisilaos Koulouris, an environmental activist associated with the ER, shows a group of protesters trying to climb the fence around the blue zone entrance near Clyde Arc, as police officers lift one person off the fence and put them on the ground.

The final day of the climate summit is Friday. A number of protests scheduled to take place today are expected to run into the weekend, local media said. Credit: Agisilaos Koulouris/@agisilaos_k via Storyful
