Proud moment North Wales man joins torch relay at Paris 2024 Paralympics
A North Wales man has told of his special role at the Paralympics in France. Aaron Evans, of Kinmel Bay, carried a torch before the event which is attracting a huge, global TV audience.
Several weeks of sporting competition are sure to grip viewers who have already enjoyed the Olympics in Paris. Mr Evans, 36, was the only Welshman in his group of torchbearers which carried the flame in the northern French town of Valenciennes last week.
He is a former Everton Disability Youth Captain, and a Welsh Youth, Regional and National award winner as well as a trained referee. He told North Wales Live: "I went to Paris in August and we stayed there one night. We travelled to Valenciennes in the north of the country.

"We did a run through of the rules and regulations and I carried the torch at 4.52pm their time on 25th. There was over two thousand people lining the streets of the town."
Mr Evans, who has cerebral palsy and was nominated to carry the torch by friends, was touched by the turn out of spectators. He added: "It was an incredible experience to be the only Welsh nominee within the Valenciennes party of 24 people.
"To be nominated by friends is a wonderful feeling."
