TWO nurseries in Dorset have been graded 'Good' in their latest Ofsted reports.

Tops Wimborne, in Leigh Road, and Tops Corfe Mullen, in Blandford Road, were both given 'Good' ratings after inspections in January.

The nurseries form part of the Tops Day Nurseries chain, which has more than 30 sites across the south and south west.

The Ofsted inspector visiting Tops Wimborne found children show motivation to learn, and are happy, safe and independent.

The report reads: “Children arrive happily and are greeted warmly by the friendly staff.

“The curriculum is well planned and implemented. Staff provide activities tailored to children's interests and learning styles.

“Children learn to be independent in their self-care. For example, they wipe their own noses, and older children attend to their own toileting. This helps build confidence and self-esteem.”

On issues which need improvement, the report said: “To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should support children to learn the consequences of their actions for themselves and others, to further promote their social and emotional development.”

Sharon White, senior nursery manager at Tops Wimborne, said: “I as the manager am so proud of my staff team and everything they have achieved I couldn’t have asked for a better work family."

The Ofsted inspector visiting Tops Corfe Mullen found children benefit from lots of activities, and feel safe and valued.

The report reads: “Children enjoy activities that staff provide them and become engrossed in their play.

“Staff use children's interests to design activities that will stimulate and help enhance their development.

“Staff teach children to manage risks in a safe environment.

“Leaders have a clear curriculum that closely follows children's interests. They identify training for staff to support the setting's ethos to support children's development.”

On issues which need improvement, the report said: “To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should help all staff know and understand targeted interventions for those children with special educational needs and/or disabilities(SEND) to support their development even more."

Shaye Jaques, senior nursery manager at Tops Corfe Mullen, said: “I am so proud of my team. I look forward to the future and what it will bring.”
