Provincial Chief Minister Declares Day of Mourning Following Suicide Blast in Peshawar

Azam Khan, the caretaker Chief Minister of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, declared a day of mourning on Tuesday, January 31, after a deadly explosion at a mosque in Peshawar killed at least 100 people and injured dozens more.

Khan said he is ready to pay compensation to the families of the victims and the injured. Citing health officials, local news outlet Dawn reported that most of the injured were out of danger.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Ijaz Khan told Dawn that the mosque’s roof collapsed after the blast and that many people were stuck under the rubble.
