Scotland's most recognisable Provost is to stand down from his role.

Jim Todd will leave office at the end of this month citing "personal circumstances."

The man dubbed 'the rock n' roll Provost' of East Ayrshire spent more than a decade in the job over two stints. He intends to stay on as a member for Ward 5 for as long as he is able to do so.

Announcing the news today, Provost Todd said: “It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve the council and our communities as Provost, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every engagement and event, of which there have been many over the years.

“However, in personal terms, I simply don’t feel I can continue to give of my best in the role and therefore it is with deep regret that I have decided that the right thing to do is stand down. My heartfelt thanks go to all fellow Members, officers and to the members of our communities who have supported me in the role of Provost in what I consider to be the best Council in Scotland.”

The council will appoint Todd's replacement at its full meeting on October 31.
