PS5 stock UK - live: Game PS5 bundles sell out – here’s who could restock next

Update: The PS5 sells out at Game. It could drop at Amazon today. Read on for more information.

The PS5 launched in November 2020, but supply problems and a global shortage of semiconductors have slowed the production of Sony’s next-generation console to a crawl. New stock is hard to find, and when it does appear the PS5 sells out fast.

August was one of the best months ever for PS5 restocks, seeing multiple drops at Very, Smyths Toys, BT and EE, as well as availability at Argos, Amazon and Game. There were around 35 drops in total. September has already been impressive though, with drops at AO.com, Ace Studio and ShopTo and Currys PC World all in the first week. We’ve also seen drops at BT and Smyths Toys, and yesterday, we had some hefty drops at Game, Very and Argos. What’s next?

If you’re still on the lookout for a PS5, you’ve come to the right place. Our liveblog is on hand to give you the latest insight on Playstation 5 restocks from all major UK retailers, both online and in-store, as well as providing details on rumoured releases, the latest PS5 games and accessories to snap up.

Aaaand that’s a wrap for another day of PS5 stock tracking. While we didn’t get that Amazon drop we were so desperately hoping to see, we did get an unexpected second dose of consoles from Game.

Join us back here again tomorrow for some more PS5 stock sniffing. We could see another drop at Scan, Ace Studio and Box.co.uk Catch you all then!.

Can you get a VPN on the PS5?

16:40 , Alex Lee

While Sony doesn’t allow any VPN apps like NordVPN or ExpressVPN to be downloaded from the PlayStation Store (VPNs aren’t supported on the platform at all), there’s still a way to use a VPN on the PS5 if you want to stream geo-restricted content.

We’d recommend getting a VPN which has the Smart DNS feature. It’s a service provided by a number of VPN firms, including NordVPN, allowing you to spoof your location on devices that don’t have VPN support. You can read our round-up of the best VPNs for more information.

Want an Xbox series X?

16:00 , Alex Lee

We’ve been following the scent of PS5s for months and months now, but it’s not the only next-gen console we’re getting a whiff of. We’re also tracking stock of the Xbox series X, which is just as elusive as the PS5.

Game has just had an All Access Xbox series X restock, which lasted (literally) days. If you want Microsoft’s next-gen console, head over to our Xbox stock tracking liveblog for all the latest updates. You’ll be the first to know when the console next drops.

The Xbox series X is in stock at Game and Very – here’s how to get it

Best PS5 SSD

14:20 , Alex Lee

 (Amazon)
(Amazon)

As of today’s update, gamers with oodles of PS5 games can finally install their own SSD onto their PS5 and expand the storage of the console. Before this, only external hard drives could be used, and only PS4 games could be stored on them. It’s a little bit confusing to install, requiring removal of the thumbscrew, a heatsink and more, but it’s the price Sony makes you pay for expanding your internal storage.

Want an external SSD instead? We’d recommend the Seagate 4TB HDD (£88.99, Amazon.co.uk). Only PS4 games can be stored on it however. You can read our review of the SSD and our other favourite PS5 accessories below.

Upcoming PS5 games: ‘Far Cry 6’ PS5

13:30 , Alex Lee

‘Far Cry 6’: £54.99, Amazon.co.uk

 (Ubisoft)
(Ubisoft)

Set in a tropical paradise, you’ll play as Dani Rojas, who is on a mission to take down the ruthless dictator in a bid to save his son. It’s likely to be as politically dicey as the previous Far Cry games made by Ubisoft. With such high-end production values, we’re expecting that this will be a huge hit.

The game was initially slated for a February release, but thanks to those pesky delays, it’s been pushed back and confirmed for 7 October, which is bang in the middle of the big gaming season. Make sure you beat the crowds by pre-ordering it now.

Can you play PS4 games on PS5?

12:40 , Alex Lee

You sure can! The overwhelming majority of the PS4 games you own are playable on the PS5. You’ll be able to download any games you bought through the PlayStation store on your PS4 and play them on the next-gen console.

If you’ve got the disc edition of the PS5, you’ll also be able to insert your PS4 discs into it and play them that way, too. Obviously, because there’s no physical disc slot on the digital edition of the console, you won’t be able to play any PS4 discs you own. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite PS4 games, and most of them have dropped in price since the PS5 came out.

Where the heck is the Amazon PS5 drop?

11:50 , Alex Lee

It’s been over a month since Amazon last had a restock and, looking at the time, it’s unlikely that the retailer is going to restock again today. The latest we’ve ever seen new PS5 consoles drop on the company’s website is 10:45am, so we’ve scratched it off our list for now.

We’re not sure what’s up with Amazon, but it’s very peculiar for it to go this long without restocking the PS5 console. We don’t expect it to drop on Thursday or Friday, so next week becomes the new likely restock period. Don’t let us down, Amazon.

What’s in the new PS5 software update?

11:05 , Alex Lee

It’s a great time to have just bagged a PS5 from Game (if you did just manage to get one, that is). The new PS5 software update is released today and oh boy, is it a big one.

There are UX improvements, social experience improvements, 3D audio support for built-in speakers and, finally, SSD expansion. You can read about the new update in Sony’s PS5 blog post.

Is ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ PS5 still coming out this year?

10:30 , Alex Lee

 (Amazon)
(Amazon)

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be one of the best games of 2020. But when it came out, it was just a hot mess. Technical issues plagued the game, and it didn’t play well on the PS4, leading to it being taken off Sony’s PlayStation Store altogether. The game returned to the store in June and in early July Adam Kiciński, the CD Projekt Red CEO, said that the game had reached a satisfactory level in terms of stability.

In a June earnings call, Kiciński said that a PS5 version of the game was still going to be reissued this year, but in early September, this was thrown into doubt when VP of business development Michał Nowakowski said that this could be pushed back further.

“The target is to release the next gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year,” he said. “At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”

Game PS5 bundles sell out

10:13 , Alex Lee

That was a pretty lengthy drop for one made out of cancelled orders. The PS5 is now sold out at Game, having lasted just shy of an hour. We hope some of you managed to buy the console. If not, we’re still expecting more drops to land today and the rest of this week. Keep your eyes peeled on the blog for more updates.

One of our favourites is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which earned the title of best action game in our round-up. Our reviewer said that it “refines the original’s formula” and that it’s a “streamlined adventure with a more focused story, far less busy work and an endearingly clumsy protagonist still getting to grips with his powers.”

Why is the PS5 digital edition console harder to find than the disc edition?

09:43 , Alex Lee

 (iStock/The Independent)
(iStock/The Independent)

As with yesterday’s Game drop, there aren’t any digital edition consoles available this time round, continuing the status quo of the digital edition being harder to buy than the disc edition console.

It’s pretty much been this way ever since the console was first released back in November. When the console first came out, retailers were allocated around 25 per cent digital edition consoles and 75 per cent disc edition console. We don’t know if the situation has changed since then, but we still see fewer digital edition consoles dropping than disc edition consoles.

Retailers themselves might also prefer to order in the disc edition console over digital – they cost more (£449.99) for one, and they can bundle it with physical games to charge a premium.

There are still some bundles left at Game.

Game PS5 stock is live (again)

09:04 , Alex Lee

The PS5 is back in stock at Game! The bundles available are most likely cancelled orders from the drop yesterday, so we expect them to go fast.

The cheapest disc edition bundle comes with a “Player1” T-shirt (£464.98, Game.co.uk). The most expensive disc bundle comes with a dual sense controller and a pulse 3D gaming headset (£599.97, Game.co.uk).

Other highlights include a PS5 disc edition bundle, which includes a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and an additional dual sense controller (£594.96, Game.co.uk) and the same PS5 bundle, except with Demon’s Souls (£594.96, Game.co.uk).

When was the last Currys PC World PS5 drop?

08:54 , Alex Lee

Currys PC World hasn’t had a general sale drop since March, when it first started the PS5 VIP pass draw. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s essentially a raffle system in which Currys would dish out codes that people could redeem in their local store to buy a console,

Currys had a surprise in-store restock at the end of August, with people managing to buy a bundle from roughly 80 different stores. It last sent out new VIP codes at the start of September. Sadly, the pass draw has been closed to new entrants since June, so you’ll have to look elsewhere if you didn’t sign up in time.

What time could Amazon PS5 consoles drop?

08:39 , Alex Lee

 (The Independent)
(The Independent)

Amazon is one of the retailers rumoured to drop stock this morning and its avalanche of consoles could arrive anytime now. It’s been absolutely ages since Amazon last had a drop on 11 August, which is pretty unusual for the online retail juggernaut.

Since July, you’ve had to be a Prime subscriber to buy a PS5 from the online retailer. If you aren’t one, we’d suggest signing up for a 30-day free trial. Amazon usually updates its product description page with a note about Prime exclusivity prior to a drop, so watch out for that. If it does drop today, expect it sometime between 8:30am and 10am.

Where could the PS5 restock today?

08:19 , Alex Lee

Good morning PS5 seekers and welcome to another day of stock tracking action. Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day for restocks, we saw three massive retailers drop hefty bags of consoles, including Game, Very and Argos. Can hump day live up to terrific Tuesday? We’ll have to wait and see...

This morning, we’ve got our eyes trained firmly on Amazon, who hasn’t had a drop in over a month. Fingers crossed we’ll finally get one today. Stick around and we’ll deliver all the stock updates as and when they happen.

Goodbye from your PS5 stock trackers

Tuesday 14 September 2021 17:00 , Alex Lee

Whew, what a day! The big hitters have finally come to town. We had three massive drops today from Game, Very and Argos, meaning PS5 stock was available from pretty much 8am until 2pm, giving us six hours of consoles.

We say this a lot – but Very and Game both continue to deliver the goods in a massive way, providing drops that consistently last hours on end. We’ll be back tomorrow for some more PS5 stock tracking action, and we’re hoping to see a restock at Amazon.

PS5 disc edition vs PS5 digital edition console

Tuesday 14 September 2021 16:20 , Alex Lee

The major difference between the PS5 disc edition and the PS5 digital edition console is that the former has a disc drive and the latter does not. If you’ve got the disc edition console, you’ll be able to insert your PS4 discs into the PS5 and play them. Obviously, because there’s no physical disc slot on the digital edition of the PS5, you’ll only be able to play games you’ve downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

The PS5 disc edition costs £449.99, while the PS5 digital edition is cheaper at £349.99. The digital edition console seems to have less stock availability than the disc edition console, with it getting frequently snapped up at a moment’s notice.

Which games console is best?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 15:30 , Alex Lee

With so many competitors on the market, from Xbox to Nintendo, it’s hard to know which console to invest in.

Sony’s cutting edge console is certainly a standout that has several advantages over its direct rival, the Xbox Series X – including its DualSense controller with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Sony’s PS5 exclusives are also impressive with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the kid-focused Bugsnax both instant hits upon release and upcoming games such as Horizon Forbidden West and the forthcoming God of War Ragnarok sequel eagerly anticipated.

Why is there a PS5 shortage?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 13:50 , Alex Lee

PS5 consoles are notoriously difficult to secure – gold dust for gamers, some would say. And while the stock situation has definitely improved today and last month especially, There are a number of reasons why it’s always out of stock. For one, it was released in the middle of a global pandemic, and the Covid-19 crisis caused much of the manufacturing industry to shut down.

If you want to read more about the pandemic’s effect on supply and distribution, check out our explainer below:

Meanwhile, Demon’s Souls (£57.99, Currys.co.uk) on PS5 is a showcase of what the new console is capable of. “The oppressive gothic architecture, yawning arches and festering dungeons of this cult classic look spectacular on the new hardware, while remaining faultlessly faithful to the aesthetic and vibe of the original game,” our tester said.

When was the last John Lewis PS5 restock?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 10:40 , Alex Lee

The PS5 disc edition console has now sold out at Very, but the digital edition console is still in stock.

While we wait for Game to drop its consoles, let’s have a look at John Lewis & Partners. The retailer last had a PS5 drop at 7am on 3 August. As usual with the retailer, it didn’t last very long, but it did drop at 7am as it always does.

The retailer only appears to get a couple of thousand consoles or less each time new stock comes in, so we’re not expecting anything big the next time there’s a drop. John Lewis & Partners was rumoured to drop earlier this month, but it has reportedly been pushed back to the end of September or the start of October.

Best PS5 accessories

Tuesday 14 September 2021 09:43 , Alex Lee

The PS5 consoles on Game’s PS5 bundles page come with a fair few different accessories, like the dualsense controller and the pulse 3D wireless headset. If you’re looking at them, thinking to yourself, are these bits and bobs worth the extra money? Well, they both appear in our round-up of the best PS5 accessories, so we’d say: yep!

The PlayStation 5 dualsense controller (£56.99, Amazon.co.uk) is an essential addition for two-player play. Our reviewer said: “Besides looking and feeling good, it also has some useful features such as haptic feedback, which is a form of far superior vibration, and a set of trigger buttons that are much more responsive and tactile than previous PlayStation controllers.”

Stuck in the Very PS5 waiting room?

Tuesday 14 September 2021 09:11 , Alex Lee

If you’re still in the Very PS5 waiting room, keep waiting, and don’t refresh the page. Very takes into account your waiting room position when the doors open, so if you refresh the page, you’ll be pushed right back to the end of the line.

The retailer typically opens the waiting room doors within an hour of the queue going live, so we shouldn’t have long left to wait now.

We’ll let you know as soon as the queue opens up – it might happen at the exact same time as the Game drop.

Game PS5 consoles set to drop in the next hour

Tuesday 14 September 2021 08:52 , Alex Lee

Struggling to buy a console from Argos and can’t be bothered to wait for Very’s PS5 gates to open? They’re not the only retailers with restocks taking place this morning. Game is about to go live with a massive haul of PS5 bundles sometime between 9am and 10am today.

The retailer usually has 27 bundles available for you to choose from – already a considerable amount – but it now has a whopping 62! Most are a bit naff, but more bundles equals more chances to nab yourself a PS5. We’d recommend scrolling over to page two and selecting one from there – most people will click on the first one they see.

For now, people are being funnelled into a waiting room, but the doors should open in the next half an hour. Keep persisting with Argos until they do.

PS5 vs PS5 digital edition: What’s the difference?

Monday 13 September 2021 14:02 , Alistair Charlton

As you probably know by now, there are two versions of the PlayStation 5. The performance of these two consoles is identical and the only difference is how the cheaper PS5 digital edition does not have a disc drive.

This means it cannot play Blu-ray movies, and games must be downloaded to its 825 GB hard drive. Games can also be downloaded to the regular PS5, but they can also be played from a disc.

The lack of a disc drive means the digital edition is slightly smaller, at 390mm x 92mm x 260mm, compared to 390mm x 104mm x 260mm for the regular console. The digital edition is also slightly lighter, at 3.9kg compared to 4.5kg.

Games are often cheaper when bought on disc, especially on launch day and once they arrive on the second-hand market. So, while the £349 digital edition will save you £100 on day one, you could end up paying more over time.

PlayStation Showcase recap: All the PS5 games to get excited about

Monday 13 September 2021 12:05 , Alistair Charlton

 (Sony)
(Sony)

In case you missed it, Sony held a PlayStation Showcase event last week, showing off a whole bunch of games coming to the PS4 and PS5 consoles over the coming months.

There was a lot to get excited about, including an announcement and gameplay trailer for God of War: Ragarok, and trailers for Marvel’s new Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 games.

The showcase also featured the announcement of an “enhanced version” of GTA V for the Playstation 5 (and Xbox Series X/S) due out in March 2022. There’s still no word on the next installment of Grand Theft Auto, or even confirmation that the game is in the works. In reality, it is likely still several years away.

There was better news for fans of more realistic driving games, as Gran Turismo 7 has a release date of 4 March 2022. But, as much as we hope this becomes a reality, GT’s developers are no strangers to a delay or two (or three, or four…) so we’ll resist holding our breath on this one for now. And if it is delayed, that just gives you more time to finally find a PS5!

Other games announced last week include Tchia, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction (coming January 2022), Forspoken (spring 2022), Bloodhunt and Ghostwire: Tokyo (2022).

The best accessories for your new PS5 console

If you’ve managed to bag a PS5, or are still waiting patiently for the next restock, then how about some accessories to go with it? Some, like headsets and additional controllers, are included in console bundles from the likes of Game, while others are worth buying separately.

How to check for walk-in PS5 stock at Smyths Toys

Monday 13 September 2021 11:03 , Alistair Charlton

Buying online isn’t the only way to bag yourself a PS5. Smyths Toys has a useful tool on its website for checking on stock in all of its UK stores. Just as with the Xbox series X, this tool is updated whenever a console arrives and is available to buy in person.

Predictably, there is currently no PS5 or PS5 digital edition stock available in any Smyths store in the UK. But try not to lose hope, because it’s worth giving the website a quick check several times a day, as you might well get lucky as new consoles become available.

BT restock sells out in minutes

Monday 13 September 2021 10:18 , Alistair Charlton

Well, that was quick. It appears that BT jumped its own gun slightly by adding PS5 stock to the online store before sending codes out to broadband customers. A 10-minute queuing system formed instantly, and by about 10:05am the restock had dried up entirely.

Congratulations if you managed to grab one, but fear not if you missed out because we’re expecting fresh PS5 stock from Game and Argos this week.

How to pre-order Fifa 22 for PS5

Monday 13 September 2021 10:03 , Alistair Charlton

Football fans, rejoice. The next installment of the Fifa video game, called Fifa 22, can be pre-ordered right now ahead of its 1 October release date. As well as both versions of PS5, Fifa 22 can be played on the PlayStation 4, plus the Xbox One, Xbox series S and X, and the Steam and Google Stadia streaming services.

There will be two versions of the game, called standard edition and ultimate edition. Pre-ordering the former means you can start playing on the global release date of 1 October, but if you pay out for the ultimate edition you can kick-off your first Fifa 22 match on 27 September.

You can pre-order both editions of Fifa 22 right now by visiting the EA website, and the editions are also available on Amazon (from £54.99, Amazon.co.uk), Game (from £64.99, Game.co.uk), Very (from £54.99, Very.co.uk) and GameByte (from £54.95, Gamebyte.com).

PS5 stock is now available at BT

Monday 13 September 2021 09:48 , Alistair Charlton

PS5 stock has just landed at the BT online store. There’s a queuing system already in place and we’ve seen three purchase options available.

There’s the regular console for £449, as well as the console plus an extra controller for £508.99 and a console plus an extra controller and headset for £598.98.

As we have seen before with BT, you need to be a BT customer to access this restock. So before you head to the check-out make sure to have a valid code. If you don’t have a code, you can claim one from your BT account page. BT should be sending these codes out to broadband customers at 10am today, 13 September. Once you have the code you can head to the BT store and make your purchase.

When it’s your turn to enter the online store you’ll have 10 minutes to complete your PS5 order.

How much does the PS5 cost?

Monday 13 September 2021 09:30 , Alistair Charlton

As we’re sure you are all aware by now, Sony makes two versions of the PlayStation 5. The PS5 digital edition is priced at £349.99, while the regular PS5, which includes a Blu-ray disc drive, costs £449.99. The latter is the same as the Xbox series X, while the less powerful Xbox series S (which also lacks a disc drive) undercuts the digital PS5, at £249.

But many retailers, including Game, Very, Argos, ShopTo, Ace Studio, like to sell their PS5 stock in bundles. This often means spending more but getting extras like a second controller, a selection of games and other accessories. Bundles tend to be easier to get hold of, but you’ll end up spending more money than when buying the console on its own.

We’re hearing some very exciting news from Argos, which is expected to have a PS5 restock tomorrow, 14 September. Most stores across the UK are expected to have stock ready to sell this Tuesday, and this will include both the regular PS5 and the PS5 digital edition.

The restock is expected to go live in the morning, sometime between 8am and 10am, and consoles will be available to secure online.

Will Game have a PS5 restock this week?

Monday 13 September 2021 08:52 , Alistair Charlton

Game is one of the retailers we expect to have a PS5 restock this week. In fact, the retailer has gone so far as to put a release date for both models of PS5 on its website. Yes, we know the consoles were first released back in the autumn of 2020, but securing PS5 stock is still a struggle due to the ongoing global chip shortage.

So that’s why Game is stating a release date, for both models of PS5, of 17 September. That’s this Friday, so you shouldn’t have long to wait to secure yourself a shiny new console.

Game has also updated its PS5 bundles page, with these also showing a release date of 17 September. With no fewer than 58 different bundles on offer, we’re hoping this restock will be a big one.

But what about this week? Well, we’re predicting restocks at Game and BT this week. Stay tuned and we’ll take you through all the drops as and when they happen.
