Yahoo News PSA: Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Are Performing *Another* Live Concert Together
After breaking the internet with their Facebook Live concert, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have snagged a CBS special.
The live show, dubbed Garth & Trisha: Live By Request! will air on CBS this Wednesday, April 1 at 9 p.m. EST.
In addition to the special, a $1 million donation will be made to charities combating the coronavirus pandemic.
If you’re a fan of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, you probably tuned in (or at least tried) to the March 24 Facebook Live concert that broke the internet. Between intermittent site crashes, the couple entertained and uplifted millions by performing song requests and interacting with comments. The event was so popular that they’re doing it again—except this time, CBS is stepping in so everyone can watch.
The live show, dubbed Garth & Trisha: Live By Request! will air on CBS on Wednesday, April 1 at 9 p.m. EST. And yes, they’re already taking song requests. “We’re seeing how big things can be when we all do them as one,” Brooks and Yearwood said in a statement, per Rolling Stone. “In addition to the special, we and CBS will donate $1 million to charities to be determined combating the COVID-19 virus.”
Jack Sussman, CBS executive vice president of specials, music, and live events reached out to Brooks after noticing the success of his first live concert. “After we saw Garth and Trisha crash Facebook, we reached out to them about bringing this Studio G to a larger audience in a safe and exciting way,” he said.
In a Facebook Live, Brooks opened up the comments section for song requests on Monday, one day after celebrating his acceptance of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. At the time of publication, the Facebook thread had been shared over 7,000 times, and its attached video of Brooks talking to fans garnered over 932,000 views.
“My 3-year-old Son (Jacob) has me sing, ‘The River’ every night when I put him to bed. If you could play that for him it would mean the world!” one commenter wrote. Other fans asked for more duets with Yearwood. “Please please please play Whiskey to Wine,” someone asked. “You two do the best duets and you can’t get more country than this song ♥️.”
“‘What a Wonderful World’ Louis Armstrong is such a positive song,” another added. “And a reminder of the good in the world, and you’d perform it beautifully.”
Other commenters thanked him for sharing inspiring music when it’s needed most. “Thank you Garth for taking our minds off of things and for bringing people together through music,” one said. In his video, Brooks replied: “I needed it too. I gotta tell you, I just love music.”
Last time, he broke out the saxophone for “One Night a Day,” and Yearwood brought everyone to tears with her powerful rendition of “Amazing Grace.” So really, anything could happen on Wednesday.
