The DS 7 Crossback SUV, which is expected to launch in China this May, will be PSA's first model equipped with Huawei connected car technology.

The SUV will come with an infotainment system that leverages Huawei's OcreanConnect IoT platform, enabling the car to connect to the cloud and a number of smart devices.

Drivers will have access to enhanced navigation and voice recognition technology, and the car will log data that can be sent directly to their smartphones, including information on maintenance, number of trips, and driving styles. Huawei's platform will be incorporated in other PSA models across multiple markets and will likely add other features down the line, such remote software updates.

PSA and Huawei are likely hoping to take advantage of the strong appetite Chinese consumers have for connected vehicles. Seventy-nine percent of Chinese consumers plan to buy a connected vehicle in the future, which is higher than North America’s 52% and Europe’s 53%, according to Kantar TNS Auto's survey of over 8,500 consumers. However, ultimately, this could be the start of a bigger play by the two firms to capture a larger share of the connected car space in international markets. Globally, Business Insider Intelligence expects connected car shipments to rise from 33 million in 2017 to over 77 million by 2025.
