PSNI seeking man who made off after pursuit ended with car crashing into Co Down house
A man escaped on foot when a car chase ended with the vehicle crashing into a house in Hillsborough on Monday afternoon, police say.
The PSNI say a black Hyundai Santa Fe was observed "acting suspiciously" but, when police tried to stop the car, the driver "made off" towards the Co Down town. The vehicle crashed into a house in the area following what a police spokesperson described as a "short pursuit".
The driver made off on foot following the pursuit and the PSNI is now appealing for anyone who spotted a "man in a dark coat with an orange stripe" in the Park Street area of Hillsborough at around 3.30pm on Monday.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police are appealing for information following a pursuit which began in the vicinity of A1 near Hillsborough before ending in the town yesterday, Monday 2nd September.
"Officers witnessed a black Hyundai Santa Fe acting suspiciously at around 3.20pm. When police tried to stop the car, the male driver made off in the direction of Hillsborough, and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle then collided with a house in the Park Street area of Hillsborough a short time later and the driver made off on foot. The house was damaged."
The spokesperson added: "Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who seen a man in a dark coat with an orange stripe in the area at around 3.30pm to contact Police on 101 and quote reference 1014 02/09/24. Officers would also appeal to anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them. You can also report online at https://www.psni.police.uk/report."
