Psychopaths prefer listening to rap music, not classical, researchers find

In Hollywood films, psychopaths such as Hannibal Lecter pair a love for classical music with a relentless lust for murder.

But actually, you’re more likely to find a psychopath listening to Blackstreet’s catchy number one hit No Diggity, according to the latest research.

In fact, among 200 people, those with the highest scores for psychopathy rated both No Diggity and Eminem’s Lose Yourself the highest.

The researchers hope that by identifying typical music tastes for psychopaths, they might be able to pinpoint people in the workplace.

Interestingly, fans of The Knack’s irresistibly hummable My Sharona were found to be the least psychopathic.

Study leader Pascal Wallisch says, ‘The media portrays psychopaths as axe murderers and serial killers, but the reality is they are not obvious; they are not like The Joker in Batman. They might be working right next to you, and they blend in. They are like psychological dark matter.

‘You don’t want to have these people in positions where they can cause a lot of harm. We need a tool to identify them without their cooperation or consent.’
