A seaside pub is offering what it claims is the cheapest roast dinner in the country – at just £1.

There’s only one catch to enjoy the bargain meal at The Britannia in Margate, Kent. You have to spend £3 at the bar.

The pub usually offers Sunday roasts for £7.50 but on Sunday, March 10, will sell them for just £1.

Landlord Paul Rollins announced the deal on Facebook with a poster saying: “The landlord has taken leave of his senses”, saying the £1 meals are only available from noon to 5pm and when you spend £3 at the bar. It also added that booking is advisable.

The pub later added that it was fully booked for March 10, then went on to announce the same offer for March 17.

The normal Sunday roast offers a choice of roast beef or turkey with meal from local Hogman butchers.

Mr Rollins is reported to have said: “We will do it the next few weeks and see how we go with it.

“If we are getting people interested, why not keep it going. The phone has been ringing and ringing and ringing.”

One potential customer commented on Facebook: “That’s just ridiculous”.

But Mr Rollins replied: “no more so than standing on my head in the shower this morning which I quite enjoyed too!”
