SINGAPORE — If you received an email “sent” to you by the Commissioner of Police to visit the police headquarters, ignore it: it is a scam.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (31 March), the police said they are currently investigating the matter.

The fake email circulating online provided instructions to recipients to proceed to the police headquarters regarding an ongoing investigation.

The police have advised members of the public to ignore the email, as well as its attachments.

“Anyone with additional information on this scam can submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. All information will be kept strictly confidential,” said the police.

On Monday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said he made a police report regarding a fake e-mail allegedly sent in his name that asks readers to provide feedback on Singapore’s COVID-19 situation.

Since January last year, at least $987,000 has been lost to a form of e-mail scam involving the purchase of iTunes or Google Play cards.
