A tense new trailer for The Punisher has arrived, and it looks incredible.

Marvel's latest TV series brings back Daredevil cast member Jon Bernthal as the vigilante Frank Castle, and going on the trailer, we're guessing it's going to be the most violent one yet.

The dark trailer features some shooting, some fighting and a lot of smashing things up.

"All the things that I've done," Frank Castle says in voiceover. "Memories can never hurt me. The past is more than memories. It's the devil you sold your soul to.

"He's coming. He's coming to collect."

The series will follow Frank as he targets neighbourhood criminals to avenge the murder of his wife and daughter.

He teams up with his old pal Billy Russo (Westworld's Ben Barnes) and forms an unlikely alliance with NSA tech wiz Micro (The Last Ship's Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

Though if you reckon The Punisher is going to be your standard superhero saving the world, guess again.

Jon recently said that he's focusing on the character's brutality and why he's as violent as he is.

"I think Frank is brutal. Frank is damaged. Frank is tortured," he said.

"I think Frank, when he engages in violence, there's something utterly satisfying and addictive for him to be doing that, and that may not be something that the audience can agree with or get behind."

The Punisher hits Netflix later this year.
