'Who Put the Ball in the Racists' Net?' English Football Fans Hit Back at Racist Chants

England’s 6-0 win over Bulgaria in the Euro 2020 football qualifier was marred by racist taunts from spectators which forced the game to be halted twice.

English fans hit back at the racism directed at English players, singing “who put the ball in the racists’ net?” This referred to England’s winning position in the match.

The Football Association said in a statement: “This is unacceptable at any level of the game and our immediate focus is supporting the players and staff involved,”

“As we are sadly aware, this is not the first time our players have been subjected to this level of abuse and there is no place for this kind of behaviour in society, let alone in football,”
