Yet rather than basking in expected warm September sunshine, Britons have found themselves reaching for extra layers recently, as a sudden cold snap drove temperatures to sub-zero levels in various locales across the nation.

As the chillier weather approaches, many of us are left wondering when is the right time to turn on the heating. While some of us try to delay it as long as possible, bundling up in multiple layers indoors, there's actually an optimal time to activate the heating.
However, with the proposed winter fuel allowance cuts - how will this affect the way you heat your home?
Due to the unexpected frosty weather, some residents have been compelled to crank up their heating, taking to social media about the unseasonable cold, reports the Mirror.
One individual expressed disbelief: "Insane how I need the central heating on in September."
Another concurred: "It is SEPTEMBER and my house is 15.5 degrees! ! ! Might be the earliest I've ever stuck the heating on."
Someone else pondered: "Why am I currently considering putting my heating on IN SEPTEMBER."
Another social media post asking if anyone had already turned on their heating gained traction, with several responses admitting they had, while one stated: "Yes, house has to be warm and an even temperature 24/7 for my health."
Furthermore, some acknowledged they'd activated their heating 'for an hour or so'.
While some locals have succumbed to the recent chill, many are standing firm on their 'no heating till October' stance. One determined resident shared, "I'm willing to put on a third cardigan this morning. Under no circumstances is the heating going on."
Another staunchly resisted: "I'm not giving in. The heating is not going on."
NHS guidelines suggest that one should consider turning on the heating when external temperatures fall below 15C for health reasons. Typically, post-October 20th, temperatures aren't expected to climb back above 15C for the remainder of the year.
A boiler specialist has disclosed that there's a precise temperature and date for switching on the heating - a revelation that could prevent numerous domestic disputes across the UK. So, when exactly is this significant day?
Matthew Jenkins, a Heating Expert at MyJobQuote, suggests activating the central heating when the average outdoor temperatures fall below 15 degrees Celsius.
