Putin Opens Rail Bridge Linking Russia to Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin formally opened the rail section of the new Kerch Strait Bridge on Monday, December 23, connecting Russian-occupied Crimea to the Russian mainland via rail for the first time since Russia annexed the territory.

The multi-billion dollar project was carried out by Arkady Rotenberg’s S.G.M. Group. Rotenberg is seen as a close ally of Putin.

The construction of the bridge has been condemned by Ukraine, and the EU and US imposed sanctions on the companies involved in its construction, according to Reuters. Credit: Kremlin.ru via Storyful
