Grime artist Stormzy has been crowned best solo artist at the Q Awards with Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran and Kasabian also picking up gongs.

The Croydon rapper appeared jubilant after picking up his award in London, continuing a triumphant year of success with his album Gang, Signs and Prayer being ranked the best-selling independent album of 2017 so far.

Stormzy, 24, beat off competition from Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Rey and St Vincent for the best solo artist accolade.

But by no means did former Oasis frontman Gallagher leave empty handed: he was crowned best live act and given the Icon award, less than a fortnight after the release of his number one album As You Were.

Ed Sheeran, 26, was given the impressive-sounding gong for best act in the world today and appeared at Wednesday’s Camden Roundhouse show sporting a sling after fracturing his wrist in a bicycle accident.

Sheeran told reporters he did not want to "short-change" fans after having to postpone his Asia tour due to his injuries.

Grime stalwart Wiley was given the innovation in sound prize and the best album award was handed to Gorillaz for Humanz - the fifth album from Damon Albarn's animated outfit. Best track went to Kasabian for You're In Love With A Psycho.

Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers headlined the sell-out show at Camden's Roundhouse after they were given the Q Inspiration award - while fellow prize-winners Sleaford Mods also performed.

Winners also included Rag'N'Bone Man, whose debut album Human saw him collect the best breakthrough act - and the maverick award went to The Slits' guitarist Viv Albertine.

Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams and songstress Paloma Faith were among the stars handing out prizes at the event.
