Commuter towns are getting more and more popular as the years go by. Just over an hour's journey from London, there is one quaint London commuter town with average house prices of 340k and some of the best restaurants around.

Muddy Stilettos called Faversham one of the top 300 places to live in the country because of its 'growing reputation as a foodie destination, stunning scenery all around (from coastal rambles to countryside walks) and decent train links to London'.

Faversham is known as the oldest market town in the country, but it has a lot of modern appeal. It has loads of independent shops and local pubs that have become a mecca for people who love their grub.

One reason food is a highlight of Faversham is Macknade Food Hall, which offers loads of produce from locals and around the world. The places highlighted to eat at are The Phoenix Tavern, The Shipwright's Arms or Pappa Blancoi on the waterfront.

It's not just the food and shops which make people settle down in Faversham; it's the price of properties, too. Rightmove says that properties in Faversham have an overall average price of £340,586 over the last year. The majority of the homes sold were actual homes, with terraced properties being the most common property.

It shows why people move out of the capital to the commuter town. Then there's how quickly you can get back into the capital. Trains from Faversham to London are regular and can take just over an hour to go directly to major stations like St Pancras International and London Victoria.

But what reason - other than work - do you really have to go back into the concrete jungle of London? Being near the Kent coast, you're surrounded by some great nature and amazing walks. There's a walk along the Saxon Shore Way, where you will spy creeks and seabirds amongst breathtaking views across farmland, sweeping pasture and glistening wetlands.

Back in the town, every September, there is the Faversham Hop Festival. Locals, along with many guests from all around, descend on the town to enjoy live music, family attractions and endless food and drink in celebration.
