Quarantined Diamond Princess Ship Passengers Disembark in Yokohama

More than 400 passengers quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship amid the coronavirus outbreak disembarked in Yokohama, Japan, on February 19 after being held on board the ship for 14 days, Kyodo News reported.

The ship had been held in quarantine for the virus since arriving in Yokohama earlier this month.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases onboard the ship was 621, as of February 19, according to Kyodo News.

The Johns Hopkins CSSE said that over 75,000 people had been infected with the disease caused by the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19. Over 2,000 people had died since the outbreak began.

Kyodo News said the group of passengers released comprised 443 mainly elderly travelers who tested negative for the virus. “The disembarkation of the remaining some 2,500 passengers is expected to take three days at least, according to the government,” the news outlet said.
