The Queen 'adored' Prince Harry 'right to the end', claims royal historian

The Queen "adored" Prince Harry "right to the end", and he felt the same, an historian and royal commentator has said.

Robert Hardman told PEOPLE that the late monarch's special relationship with her grandson had remained strong.

There has been ongoing speculation over the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family since the pair stepped down as working members of the royal family in 2020 and went on to give several controversial interviews.

Harry and Meghan were reunited with the royal family following the Queen's death earlier this month.

The couple joined the Prince and Princess of Wales in greeting well-wishers ahead of their grandmother's funeral on Monday (19 September).

Historian Robert Hardman, author of Queen of Our Times: The Life of Elizabeth II, told PEOPLE that the Queen "adored Harry right to the end, and Harry adored her."

He added: "I think she was one of the conduits between Windsor and California, and it would have been one of her dearest wishes that [the family] patch things up."

An insider reportedly told PEOPLE that both couples "found it hard", but were getting through it for the Queen.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were captured holding each other's hands in a gesture of support as they left Westminster Abbey following the Queen's state funeral.

Meghan, 41, had arrived at the historic building in a car with the Countess of Wessex, while her husband walked in the procession behind his grandmother's coffin.

Later, Meghan joined her husband to walk behind the late monarch's coffin with her brother and sister-in-law and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who also attended the funeral.
