The Queen Consort wore a poignant piece of jewellery for a special event in Germany on Wednesday (29 March).

The King and Queen Consort arrived in Germany for the start of their overseas tour, the first of The King's reign so far.

During the visit, the royal couple attended a formal event at Bellevue Palace and, for the occasion, the Queen Consort paid subtle tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II by wearing a piece of her jewellery.

Camilla wore the City of London Fringe Necklace, which was once given as a wedding gift to The Queen, and a pair of dangling diamond earrings. The Greville Tiara she wore for the evening also holds significant ties to the Royal Family, as it previously belonged to the Queen Mother.

The Queen Consort also opted for a stunning black dress decorated with a delicate silver foliage pattern, by Bruce Oldfield, for the evening.

At the event, The King delivered a poignant speech in which he paid tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II in his own way.

He described the relationship between the nations of Germany and the UK as, "a friendship which mattered greatly to my mother, The late Queen, who cared deeply about the bond between our two countries."

He added that it meant, "so much to us that my wife and I could come to Germany for this very first overseas tour of my reign. I can only assure you, that throughout the time that is granted to me as King, I will do all I can to strengthen the connections between us.”

A clip of his speech was shared to the official Royal Family social media accounts, which described the event as a "remarkable evening celebrating the friendship between Germany and the UK."
