Queen Elizabeth II appears on the cover of Vanity Fair with some very special guests — her beloved corgis and dorgis (a dachshund-corgi mix the queen invented). Wearing a blue ensemble with her signature Gucci loafers and hot pink lipstick, the longest-ruling royal posed with beloved pets Willow, Holly, Vulcan, and Candy.

The queen sat for a series of portraits with Annie Leibovitz at Windsor Castle to celebrate her 90th birthday. During the shoot, which took place in April, Her Majesty was also photographed with her daughter Anne, husband Prince Philip (the couple have been together 69 years), and seven of her youngest grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

“The most moving, important thing about this shoot is that these were all her ideas,” Leibovitz said. “I was told how relaxed she was at Windsor, and it was really true. You get the sense of how at peace she was with herself and very much enthralled with her family.”

But she certainly seemed to be the happiest with her pets. According to the magazine, which published an expansive article called “Queen Elizabeth and Her Corgis: A Love Story” last year, she was given her first Pembroke Welsh Corgi, named Dookie, at the age of 7 and has kept the breed as her constant companions ever since. As the queen once said: “My corgis are family.”
