It is hoped that the fountain at Hull's Queen Victoria Square will reopen again this summer.

The circle of water jets in the city centre square were installed ahead of Hull's year as the UK's City of Culture in 2017. The fountain quickly became a popular attraction for families in the warmer months with children often playing in the fountain on hot days.

The fountain was last operational in August 2023 before being turned off as planned for the colder months. However, it has not been on since.

The Leader of Hull City Council, Mike Ross, has been challenged on when the fountain will be working again after not being operational last summer as would be expected. At a full council meeting, Labour Councillor Tracy Dearing, who represents the Newington and Gipsyville ward, asked Cllr Ross if he could "give a commitment that the fountains in Queen Victoria Square will be working and open by spring this year."

Cllr Ross told Cllr Dearing, and the chamber, that "the Council is working through solutions to reopen the fountains in anticipation of the summer period," therefore later than the spring opening Cllr Dearing hoped for.

It will nonetheless, be welcome news to the frequent visitors to Hull's city centre to see the fountains in operation once again.
