Queen To Visit Nazi Concentration Camp

The Queen will visit the site of the Bergen-Belsen Nazi concentration camp during a visit to Germany in June, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The visit is scheduled to take place on the Queen's and the Duke of Edinburgh's four-day state trip beginning on 23 June.

The Royal couple are due to visit several memorials at Bergen-Belsen, including one dedicated to Anne Frank, who died in the camp with her sister Margot.

The Queen will also meet groups of survivors and liberators from the camp, as well as representatives from Jewish and Christian communities.

Bergen-Belsen was liberated by British troops in April 1945.

Thousands of unburied bodies and severely ill prisoners were found at the site in northern Germany.

During her trip the Queen will also meet Chancellor Angela Merkel and attend a state banquet with Prince Philip.

They will also take a trip to Frankfurt with Germany's Federal President Joachim Gauck and his partner, Daniela Schadt.

In Frankfurt they will tour St Paul's Church and meet representatives from the city.
