The Queen's son Tom Parker Bowles has addressed a rumour about her 'love' for McDonald's, as well as explaining what she still manages to find time to cook. Food critic and writer Tom, 49, appeared on BBC Morning Live on Thursday to rustle up a pappardelle pasta with mushrooms.

It was a recipe from his new book, Cooking and the Crown, which details the history of food within the royal family. It covers from the reign of Queen Victoria beginning in 1837 and Edward VII at the turn of the century, to Charles and Camilla.

He was joined by hosts Sara Cox and Michelle Ackerley, who asked about Camilla's cooking skills.

Tom said: "She's a good cook. Before all this, becoming the Queen and marrying the King, she brought up two children in Wiltshire in the 70s and 80s."

He said she would cook simple English food like roast chicken. Sara asked if Camilla could still "nip in and cook some scrambled eggs" now she's Queen., or whether such things weren't possible.

Tom said: "No, she still does it when we're at home in the country. She'll cook it. You know how mothers cook - 'what's the recipe?' and cook it."

Tom did move to scotch rumours that Camilla was "partial to a McDonald's" as host Michelle queried. Tom said he loved McDonald's - and other burgers - and Camilla would take them after school when they were children and would occasionally take a chip, but nothing more.

He also revealed the King and Queen often foraged for mushrooms when they were in Scotland and were "quite competitive" about it.

Tom was also asked about Camilla's health after she battled a chest infection recently. He said she was "utterly devastated" to miss the remembrance service last weekend as she recovered, but added: "I know it's going (away). It was a really bad infection."
