There were queues down the street in Whitley Bay at the end of last week, as a much hyped new 'luxury' burger restaurant opened by the coast, with the promise of some free food and a half price offer on launch day.

It was first announced back in the spring that the now nationwide chain Burger Drop had plans to open up a new venue on Whitley Road, on the site of the former Kismet Indian eatery. Burger Drop describe themselves as offering "passion for burgers meets culinary excellence" and have already proved a hit in both Heaton and on Westgate Road.

Over the summer, a number of updates were given by owners on the progress of the new establishment, with Burger Drop who pride themselves on giving customers a 'luxury but affordable experience," revealing that doors were set to open in Whitley Bay by the end of October.

And launch day actually ended up arriving sooner than expected, with Burger Drop Whitley Bay opening for business at the end of last week, with no shortage of people lining up outside to get a taste of the action. A photo posted on Burger Drop's socials shows a steady stream of diners queuing up waiting to get their hands on the burgers, which have since been all over Instagram and TikTok as some of the first customers shared their initially thoughts with the world.

Sharing a selection of photos from the successful launch on their Insta grid, Burger Drop wrote: "ONE THOUSAND BURGERS were served on our opening night at Whitley Bay, Thank you to every single one of you, as well as the amazing team who worked harder than ever to bring you our luxury burger experience," with one customer replying: "Had a takeaway last night and it was spot on!"
