Quick-thinking shop worker hailed hero after catching baby in mid-air as she fell from trolley

A quick-thinking shop assistant has been hailed a hero after catching a baby in mid-air as she fell from a shopping trolley.

Christopher Strickland was working at a Home Depot store when he saw the infant placed precariously in a car seat while her father was distracted at the till.

As the baby girl wobbled and fell forward from the seat towards the floor, Strickland, 19, leapt into action and caught the youngster in mid-air.

Moments later he handed the baby back to her grateful father, who thanked the employee profusely before leaving the store in South Anchorage, Alaska.

Store CCTV captured Mr Strickland’s heroic actions, and the catch was later posted online by the worker’s brother, Dale.

Mr Strickland told the Anchorage Daily News: ‘I thought I'd keep an eye on it, in case something happened.’

The video has since gone viral after receiving more than 165,000 hits online since January 12.
