STORY: Twelve of the world's top Longboarders took to Kelly Slater's wavepool in the California desert on Sunday (October 18) for the Cuervo Surf Ranch Classic one off charity event.

Under stadium lighting for the first time at a Surf Ranch WSL event, 2019 World Surf League (WSL) Longboard champ Justin Quintal won the men's competition while 2018 Longboard champ Soleil Errico topped the women's side.

Surfers taking part in the WSL top level Championship Tour events use the more common shortboards, generally 5 to 7 feet (1.5 to 2.1m) in length, while longboard surfers use boards more than eight feet (2.4m) and are known for the famous 'hang ten' move of walking out to front of the board.

The Surf Ranch has hosted WSL CT events for the past two years but this year's Freshwater Pro event, along with most of the 2020 WSL calendar, were cancelled in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
