It’s been a funny old year at the movies, with cinemas closing, reopening, and then closing again faster than you can say coronavirus pandemic, but it hasn’t stopped Hollywood from churning out new films.
The year began with the release of Sam Mendes’ award-winning 1917, closely followed by the awards season blitz of the Golden Globes and then the Oscars, and while we waited for the new James Bond film to land in April, the first big films of the year started to creep out. Will Smith’s return in Bad Boys For Life set the box office alight, while critics went crazy for Bong Joon-Ho’s Best Picture winning Parasite and the remake of The Invisible Man, and kids went cuckoo for Sonic The Hedgehog and Pixar’s latest Onward.
But then disaster struck as cinemas were shut down in the middle of March. There have been glimmers of hope though along the way with streaming hits like Trolls World Tour and Mulan, before Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Bill and Ted Face The Music braved cinematic releases.
