R Kelly mugshot revealed as singer charged with 10 counts of sexual assault

Police have released R Kelly's mugshot as the singer was taken into custody after being charged with 10 counts of sexual assault.

Kelly handed himself in at a Chicago police station hours after police announced the charges of aggravated sexual abuse involving four alleged victims, including at least three between the ages of 13 and 17.

The 52-year-old, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was driven to the station in a dark-coloured van with heavily-tinted rear windows.

The vehicle pulled up outside the building at about 8.15pm local time on Friday, with the singer's security keeping reporters and cameramen at arms' length.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted a short time later that he was under arrest.

Kelly did not respond to questions from reporters as he walked inside the building.

He was expected to be held overnight before a court appearance on Saturday.
