RAAC: updated list of schools in England affected by ‘prone to collapse’ concrete published by government
The government has published an updated list of schools in England which it has identified as being affected by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete, known as RAAC.
The number of schools with buildings which were found to contain RAAC has risen from 147 to 174, meaning an extra 27 institutions have informed the Department for Education (DfE) of the presence of the material since the initial list was published in early September.
Many students had their education and the start of the new school year disrupted by the discovery of RAAC earlier this month, after conveyors warned that the concrete - which was widely used between the 1950s and 1990s - only had a lifespan of about 30 years and was therefore “prone to collapse”.
This meant several schools had to delay the start of term due to building closures, while others opted for a return to pandemic-style online learning. According to the government, the majority of these institutions now have all pupils back in face-to-face education, however one has remained fully remote, and others are operating a mix of arrangements.
Here are the 27 new schools which have been added to the DfE’s list of “education settings with confirmed RAAC”:

In Northern Ireland, schools are being checked for collapse-prone concrete as a matter of urgency.
