Rab C. Nesbitt star Gregor Fisher says filming in Glasgow for a new BBC comedy series was a "full circle moment" for him.

Gregor and Greg McHugh, who starred in Gary Tank Commander, will feature as father and son Ken and Richard Pritchard in the new BBC series Only Child. And despite the show being set in Forres, areas around Glasgow, including Barrhead, were transformed to look like the Moray seaside town.

Gregor told Glasgow Live: "Some of the location were very strange for me. I went to Barrhead High School, and my children used to go to school in Dunlop and suddenly I'm back there filming.

"I lived abroad for quite a long time so it was a bit of elephant graveyard stuff, kind of a full circle. There were people coming up to me in Dunlop going 'oh hello Gregor, haven't seen you in a while'."

Only Child is a six-part BBC comedy series which sees actor Richard (Greg), who is struggling for success in London reunite with his aging father Ken and discovering he may be in need for extra help.

"This show is really funny," Greg added. "The generational shift has become quite pronounced because technology runs so much of our lives.

"When Richard, my character, goes back he's dealing with issues a lot of people with older parents are dealing with like online banking and all these complicated ways of managing your life.

"Through that journey Richard sees the vulnerability of his dad, a guy who's looked after him, but also what a good man he is and their relationship is rediscovered.

"There are moments of pathos and I think people will relate and find this funny. I have conversations on a weekly bases with my father about the internet not working anymore.

"No dad, the internet is working on a global sense, it's just you having issues with it."

Gregor added: "That's what my kids say to me.

"There's all these phrases you get now and I have no idea what they mean.

"I was talking to my wife, and people are living so much longer. I was brought up by parents who left the planet in their late 60s.

"People live so much longer and all the things that fleshes air to, slight dementia and slight incapacity of some kind. I think if you haven't had first hand experience of this you'll know someone who has.

"Having said that, it's not a drama documentary. It's life but it's larger than and heightened.

Greg joked: "You don't need to watch the show, just listen to him."

The show will see Greg and Gregor reunited where Greg played a bit part spot in Rab C. Nesbitt and features in The Cockfields, and Greg said it was "very odd to see your heroes" on set.

He added: "Once I got to know Gregor, I knew there was nothing to worry about, and I didn't really respect him anymore... I'm only joking. By the time we started working on this, we were in a great place and my nerves had dissipated a bit. We had great scripts to work on and it's a great team."

Greg also admitted he sees elements of himself in the character adding: "I think there's a bit of Richard in me. An actor obsessed with getting on in his career.

"He's concerned about what people think of him. He doesn't like the fact the people in the village keep suggesting things to him and that he's not as famous as he thinks he is, and that he's not great with women.

"I'm luckily married now, but I was never good in that department."

Only Child will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and BBC Scotland on Thursday, November 21 at 10pm.
