Dozens of the European Broadcast Union’s constituent radio stations played the song You’ll Never Walk Alone at 8:45 am central European time on March 20, in response to a suggestion by Dutch DJ Sander Hoogendoorn.
Hoogendoorn, a morning host on the Dutch station 3FM, originally called on his fellow morning hosts in the Netherlands to play the Gerry and the Pacemakers song.
Soon, stations all over Europe took up the idea, the EBU confirmed.
Liverpool FC, for whom the song is an anthem played at every home game, tweeted a video at the appointed time of fans singing at Anfield. Credit: @Cas_Plz via Storyful
