Raging East Lothian woman 'up all night' after phone call brings devastating news

An East Lothian woman has been left gutted after her beloved horse trailer was nicked overnight.

Dorothy Mckinley, 58, had just woke up on Thursday morning, November 21, before she received a devastating phone call to say her horse box had been stolen from a yard in Elphinstone.

The 58-year-old said the box is vital in her life as she would travel with her pony along with her granddaughter and says this will nolonger be possible.

It's understood the box was pinched from Elphinstone Tower between 5.30pm on Wednesday evening and 7am on Thursday morning. Police Scotland have said inquiries are ongoing.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Dorothy said: "I am just so angry. I got a phone call around 7am from the yard owner to say my trailer had been stolen. They had taken the gate off its hinges and took my trailer away.

"I would use it to take my pony to local shows, the beach and things along with my granddaughter - she would come with her pony too.

"I left the yard about 5pm on Wednesday and I didn't see it again. I only have one trailer so it's just really frustrating."

Dorothy added she has been "up all night" after getting the news and is pleading for information from the public.

She continued: "I just have no answers and I was up all night trying to figure it out. It was only four years-old and I won't be getting another one if I don't find it because it's too risky.

"We worked really hard to get this trailer and for a thief to think they can just help themselves to it is not on. I will never stop looking for it ever."

A Police Scotland spokesperson sad: "Around 7.20am on Thursday, 21 November, 2024, we received a report of the theft of a horse box from a premises on Elphinston Tower.

“The theft is believed to have occurred between 5.30pm on Wednesday, 20 November and 7am on Thursday, 21 November.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0556 of 21 November, 2024.”
